Pet Travel Microchip & Vaccinations Requirements
Requirements for Hong Kong entry
- Import Permit is required
- Age at least 5 months age at the time of travel.
- Dogs and cats must be at least 5 months old
- Microchip
- 9 digit AVID chip is recommended for dogs.
- If dogs are identified with a microchip other than that used for the identification of dogs in Hong Kong (AVID encrypted transponder with an alphanumeric
- code in the format of AVID*XXX*XXX*XXX) then the dogs will be re-chipped upon arrival in Hong Kong.
Rabies Vaccine
Anti-Rabies Vaccination Certificate certifying that:
- The animal has been vaccinated against rabies not less than 30 days and not more than 1 year prior to departure. In the case of primary vaccination the animal must be at least 90 days old when vaccinated.
- Dogs of 5 months of age or older will be vaccinated against rabies on arrival irrespective of the current vaccination record.
Vaccination Certificate
Vaccination Certificate certifying that:
- The animal has been fully vaccinated against the following canine and feline infectious diseases not less than 14 days and not more than one year before
Departure to Hong Kong:
- DOG – Canine Distemper, Infectious Canine Hepatitis, and Canine Parvovirus.
- CAT – Feline Panleucopaenia (Infectious Enteritis) and Feline Respiratory Disease Complex (Cat Flu)
Residence Certificate
- The animal has been continuously residing in the country/place of origin during the preceding 180 days, or since birth, before departure from that country/place.
- The area within 10Km of the animal premises has been free of reported cases of rabies in any animals (excluding bats) during the preceding 180 days from the date of departure.
Animal Health Certificate
Dated not more than 14 days before the departure, certifying that:
- The animal is free from any clinical signs of infectious or contagious disease,
- Fit to travel,
- Free of any quarantine restrictions imposed by the government authority of the country/place of export,
- And is either not pregnant or less than four weeks pregnant if it is a female.
- The certificate must be positively correlated to the certified animals by including the identifying microchip details.
- A combined Animal Health and Residence Certificate is acceptable.
- The certificate must be signed and stamped by EITHER a full-time salaried government veterinary officer OR a registered veterinary surgeon and endorsed by a full-time government veterinary officer.
- To facilitate correct certification, it is strongly recommended to use Hong Kong Standard Animal Health Certificate, issued together with the permit or equivalent, should be used.
Transport Requirements
The animals must be transported as MANIFESTED CARGO.
Dog Breed Requirements
Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Braziliero and their crossbreeds must not be imported; in the case of Staffordshire bull terrier or if requested by an HK officer, the dog must be accompanied with a statutory declaration attesting to the breed of the dog.
Savannah Cats Import
These permit terms are not applicable for the importation of Savannah cats.
Bengal Cats Certification
Bengal cats will need the certificate to certify that the cat is of 5th of above 5th generations of domestic ancestry.
HK Pet Import Permit
- Require owner’s passport/HKID copy and pet details like breed, age, sex and color/identification
- Takes 6-8 working days to be ready, and it valid for six months from the issued date
