Below is a summary of some of the requirements to qualify for the 5 Day-Or-Less Program:
HAWAII’S ANIMAL QUARANTINE LAW
Hawaii has strict laws regarding the importation of animals. Hawaii is rabies-free. Hawaii’s quarantine law is designed to protect residents and pets from potentially serious health problems associated with the introduction and spread of rabies. All dogs and cats, regardless of age (puppies and kittens included) or purpose, must comply with Hawaii’s dog and cat import requirements.
Hawaii Administrative Rules, governs the importation of dogs, cats in to Hawaii. This law states that dogs and cats meeting specific pre-arrival and post-arrival requirements may qualify for 5-day–or-less quarantine program, which has a provision for direct release at Honolulu International Airport after inspection.
Furthermore, the law requires dogs and cats that do not meet all of the specific 5-Day-Or-Less program requirements to be quarantined for up to 120 days upon arrival in Hawaii.
There are specific requirements that must be met to be considered for the 5 Day-Or-Less Quarantine process. This includes proof of 2 rabies vaccines given at least 30 days apart. The most recent rabies vaccination must be done at least 90 days prior to the pet’s arrival in to Hawaii. A microchip implanted prior to the Rabies Titer Blood draw. The rabies titer blood sample must not be more than 36 months and not less than 120 days before the date of arrival. Blood test results must be greater than or equal to 0.5 IU/ml.
Following a successful OIE-FAVN test result, animals must wait at least 120 days before arriving in Hawaii.
